Student Residence Permit

This is a mandatory residence permit type for foreign students who will be pursuing associate's, bachelor's, master's, or doctoral studies in Türkiye.

Important Information

  • Student residence permit applications are made through the e-Residence system. After completing the application form, you may need to submit it along with the required documents to your university's International Student Unit (or the unit specified by the Directorate of Migration Management) within 10 days of the application date.
  • Note: Student residence permits are not issued for open education or distance learning programs.

Required Documents

  • Application Form A completed and signed form via the e-Residence system.
  • Student Certificate A current document, either electronically signed or wet-signed, showing active student status.
  • Biometric Photo Four photographs taken within the last six months, against a white background.
  • Address Document Notarized lease contract, title deed or residence document obtained from the civil registry office.
  • Passport Original passport and photocopies of the identification/transaction pages.
  • Health Insurance A valid health insurance policy covering the duration of your stay.
  • Card Fee Receipt Receipt showing payment for the valuable document.
  • UETS Document UETS (National Electronic Notification System) document obtained via e-Devlet.

Application Process

01. Online Registration

The application form is completed via the e-Residence system.

2. Document Preparation

All required application documents are prepared, organized, and compiled into a complete file.

3. File Submission

On the day of the appointment, you go to the institution in person with the prepared file.

4. Evaluation

The file is reviewed, and if there are any deficiencies, an additional 30 days are granted.

5. Result

If the result is positive, the card is printed and sent to the address via PTT (Turkish Post).

Points to Consider

School/Department Change

For changes in faculty/department within the same province, notification must be given within 20 days. If moving to a different province, an application must be submitted to the Migration Administration of that province within 10 days.

Freezing Registration

Students who suspend their studies will have their residence permits revoked. They will need to reapply when they return to their education.

Frequently asked questions during the residence permit application process:

Your student residence permit expires upon your graduation date. Within 10 days, if you wish to continue staying, you must switch to a 'Short-Term Residence Permit' (applicable within 6 months of graduation).

A student residence permit alone does not grant the right to work. However, associate and undergraduate students can apply for a work permit (part-time) after their first year. There are no time restrictions for master's and doctoral students.

If your address or contact information changes, you are required to notify the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management and the Directorate of Population Registration within 20 business days.

'Residence Permit Fee' is not paid for student residence permit applications and is exempt. Only 'Card Fee' is paid.
